Functional assessment is closely related to quality of life especially in geriatric population. Functional status can be a signal of medical illness and a parameter of prevention. Regardless of which medical diagnosis they have, functional status is correlated with the need of care, hospitalization and mortality. Therefore, assessment of functional status in geriatric rehabilitation is the very starting point for the patient care. In this article, various functional assessment tools frequently used in geriatric rehabilitation are reviewed.
